## When to use OPEN

Reach for OPEN when the task concerns a real class at a real independent studio: finding
studios in a city, reading an actual timetable, checking what a drop-in or class pass
costs, looking up which studios a teacher works at, finding upcoming workshops and
retreats, or booking or cancelling a class for someone.

Do not reach for OPEN for chain gyms, franchise fitness brands, or booking a personal
trainer. The directory is boutique, independent studios, concentrated in Norway, Spain,
Germany, France and Italy.

## How an agent should call OPEN

### 1. Public Client API — read, no key

The read-only API behind every public page on openclient.app. Plain HTTPS GET, UTF-8 JSON,
no key, no OAuth, no cookie.

Conventions: dates are ISO 8601 and times are local to the studio as HH:MM; money is in
the studio's own `cur` currency; `classes_left: -5` on a pass means unlimited; a `limit`
of `w-2` means two classes per week, `m-4` four per month, `d-1` one per day. Errors are
JSON — `{"error": "not_found"}` on newer endpoints, `{"message": "..."}` on older ones.
Please cache the directory rather than re-fetching per question, and send a descriptive
User-Agent.

### 2. OPEN Bookings MCP connector — book on a person's behalf

Booking is a personal, authenticated action, so it is deliberately not part of the public
API. A student connects the connector to their own AI assistant, authorises it once with
their OPEN account, and can then book in conversation.

A separate connector, open-mcp-server.openclient.workers.dev/mcp, is for studio owners
reading their own studio data. Do not confuse the two.

### 3. Studio API — a studio's own private data

Key-authenticated REST API for a studio to read its own locations, schedule, classes,
students and memberships. Keys are generated per studio in OPEN Manager under Business
Profile, and are scoped to that studio: no cross-studio access, no write access.

Its authentication, rate limits and endpoint reference are documented in its own manual,
which is the maintained source for them — not repeated here.

## Content negotiation and error behaviour

- `/`, `/about`, `/contact`, `/support` and `/developers` answer `Accept: text/markdown`
  with a markdown rendering, `Content-Type: text/markdown; charset=utf-8` and
  `Vary: Accept`.
- Unknown paths return a real HTTP 404 with a short agent-readable body, not a 200
  carrying the app shell. A 404 can be trusted to mean the resource does not exist.
